In 1836, the district of Norwalk was produced, covering the main location of the town. Throughout the Early and 19th 20th century, Norwalk was a significant railway stop for the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad. The city of South Norwalk and the staying parts of the town of Norwalk were both integrated in 1910 to form the existing city.
Norwalk was settled in 1649 and is the 6th most populated city in Connecticut. According to the 2020 United States Census, it has had a population of 91,184.Roger Ludlow bought the locations east of the Norwalk river from Chief Mahackemo of the Norwaake (or Naramauke) Indians in 1640. Norwalk was settled in 1649, integrated in September 1651, and called after the Algonquin word yank, suggesting “point of land”, or more most likely from the native American name “Naramauke”.
The Ku Klux Klan had a quick existence in Norwalk throughout the 1920s however rapidly broke down due to internal problems. In 1955, numerous cyclones struck the city, triggering flooding in Norwalk Harbor. Throughout the 1970s, efforts were required to traditionally maintain South Norwalk, leading to the development of the Washington Street Historic District
